    Its the way people act.

I just went to my first social outing since I was diagnosed. It was awful. Everyone was staring at me, trying to catch my eye, trying to say their pre planned statements, trying to get the latest updates. Trying to get me to talk about personal stuff in front of the group, acting weird. Every time i closed my eyes people were asking me if i was ok. Offering me water all the time. fussing over me, making a spectacle of me. In the end I just became withdrawn & that made them act even worse. They thought I needed a geeing up so then they started with all the psychobabble. Its like they wanna all put someone with cancer on a pedestal & then just stand there gawping at them. Its embarrassing and awkward.

Hi Khandarohi, Thanks for sharing though I am sorry to hear you had a negative experience, that sounds really tough and uncomfortable.

It can feel really upsetting and frustrating when people behave that way. It is a shame they weren’t able to take their lead from you.

How do you feel about social outings moving forward? Do you have a good friend who understands where you are at that you could go out with?

Thanks again for sharing, Laura Online Community Volunteer for Marie Curie
